60th Class Reunion

Fitchburg High School - Class of 1954 - 60th Class Reunion - October 10th 2014

Your Reunion Committee wanted to make this 60th Reunion memorable --- we wanted it to be a perfect get together.

The changes from the old Fort Devens have been significant. Devens is now a town beautifully situated among the rolling green hills. We also knew that a few of our classmates met their future husbands while they were stationed at Fort Devens.

Friday morning an area by the War Museum was set up for tailgating including a red and grey flag which says FHS class of 1954! The best part was watching classmates as they arrived and the excitement in seeing old school friends was wonderful ---- coffee and cider doughnuts were enjoyed by all.

Visiting the War Museum we discovered 4 rooms filled with memorabilia that has been collected from 1917 to 1996. There is a wonderful collection of uniforms, photographs, letters and much more. We learned that the fort was also a prison camp during WWII. There is a wealth of history here and tours are available. Many found the brief visit very interesting and plan a return trip.

Next on the agenda was the Devens Common Center and the entrance to the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott. The building is beautiful and the dining room was perfect for our reunion. Greeters welcomed and gave out name tags. This was time for catching up with personal histories. There were many smiles and wonderful conversations reminiscing.

White pumpkins decorated with seasonal foliage were stunning as table centerpieces --- Group Reunion photos were on display also many snapshots from previous reunions and 50's FHS pictures.

A Welcome Toast by Augie Sardinha was followed by the taking of Class Pictures --- Jim Sparks gave Grace and Luncheon was served.

The afternoon program began as Tom Conry, Master of Ceremonies, Welcomed everyone ---

Pat (Lundberg) Mogensen then spoke of Class Remembrances and gave an Introduction to THEN AND NOW ---

In Memoriam --- pictures of classmates who have passed since the 55th Reunion were shown ---

We watched a Video called "THEN AND NOW" which very dramatically and in a fun way made the viewer aware of CHANGE ---- particularly since we are children of the fifties --- Remember --- 1954 --- Family watching TV together ---- at night they watch television after supper --- our favorite show is "Lassie" ---

A number of interesting items were selected by lucky Raffle winners ---

Final words --- Master of Ceremonies ---People can stay and visit ---

Gift bags and Class Directory to be picked up on the way out ----

Eila Eagle (Barbara Palomaki's friend) and Marcia Hastbacka --- have provided the 68 photos ----

Guests were reminded that the Fitchburg Red Raiders were playing North Middlesex at Crocker Field with Kickoff at 7:00pm.

Also, if you are free tomorrow morning join some classmates at Hollis Hills Farm (the new name of Marshall Farm) for a pancakes, bacon and coffee breakfast at 9:15.
